    DockSession LA July

The month of July has been a busy one for us here at DockSession LA. We had our beloved Mexican Loaded ambassador Marco Sandoval in town, so we were mostly stacking clips for his upcoming video in Los Angeles. Sadly we don't have an event video for this blog post since all the footage will be saved for the video. Keep your eyes peeled on the Loaded YouTube and Facebook pages!

In addition to filming with Marco, Alberto has been skating more and more while recovering his knee. He came back with a different mindset and he's been getting new tricks that even surprise him.

We've had a couple of new members added to the weekly slashing, we're always happy to see new faces. Next week's session is going to be in Santa Monica, pushing by the beach. Join us! Bring your friends and some sunblock!

The Gel Lab Shred Sessions / Shark’s Log – 170721

I had been working in a small mom & pop sporting good store that bought and sold used sporting equipment. I had gotten the job as a way to earn some meager cash over the summer while school had been on recess. The owner was, often times, in a drunken stupor in his little upstairs office, while my co-worker and I ran the store.

The Gel Lab Shred Sessions / Shark's Log – 170710

Skateboarding has been the focus of my life for the last decade. Whether it was playing an active role as a photographer/writer contributing "content" to the hype machine or being the eye candy in front of the lens, I've managed to carve out a double existence within this small humble realm, and there is not a day that goes by that I don't acknowledge the fact that I've been extremely fortunate to have been able to live such a life. With that said, if there is one thing you realize through all of this, it's that stagnation is the swan song to our industry. The moment we accept complacency within our spectrum, is the moment when everything begins to unravel.

The Gel Lab Shred Sessions / Shark’s Log – 170613

I’ll never forget what it felt like to attend my first slide jam. I remember the crowds of skaters and spectators alike, all sitting along the sides of the hill. I remember the sound of skateboards and sliding wheels, cheers and hollers as skaters flew by. Here and there were the individuals you recognized from photos, the seasoned guys doing all things stand-up, rarely dropping slide pucks to the ground. It was truly a spectacular thing to watch.

The Gel Lab Shred Sessions / Shark’s Log – 170525

I don’t feel like any of us really chooses to stop skateboarding; life just prioritizes it out. That’s a weighty opening statement, I know, but for each and every one of us, eventually there will come a time where you will be forced to make a choice: maybe not one big sudden decision, but a series of smaller decisions that overall limits the actual activity of skateboarding.

The Gel Lab Shred Sessions / Shark’s log – 170503

The Gel Lab sessions are just shy of almost a decade old. That’s almost ten solid years of skateboarding on Wednesday nights with good friends and in good company. I won’t lie, we’ve lost a few people along the way, and I mean that both metaphorically and physically. Life runs its course, and just like the cycle of the seasons, faces come and go. With that being said, I’ve also come to know that some of The Gel Lab session’s longest running attendees have had their stints of disconnection as well. Sometimes even the most fervent session goers just need to ghost out for awhile. However, for me, the greatest gratification is seeing some of those long lost faces re-emerge from the abyss of obscurity. I assume the reconnection stands to represent a bit of a revival of sorts, a re-association with something that made you feel good about yourself.

    DockSessionUSA April 9th & 16th

This past couple of sessions have been amazing. Witnessing the gradual growth of DockSessionUSA and seeing new faces as well as recognizing "the usuals" from week to week always puts a smile on my face.

The Gel Lab Shred Sessions / Shark’s log – 170329

Some weeks had passed since we had been back to our beloved DTLA garage of garages. I had personally spent time casing the garage during the weeks of our absence, memorizing security patterns, making sure that IF we were to return to our weekly routine, things would be relatively “stress” free. I’ll admit, I wasn’t quite sure how things would turn out. The security had been staying later and later, which in corporate terms means that someone had to make a decision in a meeting to keep these guards hanging out longer, thus costing them more in the process. So the fact that our presence had become enough of a concern for them to start having their lackeys hang around later was reason enough for us to stay away.

It's been one solid month of DockSession USA events here in Los Angeles, and we couldn't be more proud of the turnout and the incredible positivity of the skaters that have gathered for each session!
